Verde River

The second half of our Labor Day was spent down at the Verde River.

Extra full and extremely muddy but still an awful lot of fun!
Jeremy Cluff helped supply us with plenty of food for dinner!

Labor Day Fun

Labor Day was lots of fun for us!!

(Besides not having John home to hang out with us)

We started off at the Cluff's for BREAKFAST with lots of FRIENDS and FAMILY

We had lots of yummy food, puppies to play with, horses to ride, babies crawling all over in the dirt, and plenty of good conversations!!

Burried Alive!

What a day!! I wake up...the kids and I get started on the morning chores, and the girls come running in from the pig pen... THE PIG IS DEAD, THE PIG IS DEAD!! Nice!! We just burried a pig about a month ago thanks to the dumb dogs... so HERE WE GO AGAIN! Sure enough... a dead pig, plenty of evidence around the dogs mouths to prove it was them. I call John... he says.. THAT DOG (meaning Diesel) is a GONER!!

Well the day goes on, and I come outside to check on the kids to see what they're up to... and this is what I find....

"Dead man, dead man, come alive,

before we count to the number 5!"

My first thought was ...???...

How hilarious!! Now where can you find such a sweet dog to just lay there and let the kids bury him in the sand? So of course, I run, grab my phone and camera, send a few pics to John saying, "BURRIED ALIVE" ... he asked... "IS HE DEAD?" No of course not but it's a pretty funny ending to what happened earlier today!!!

So, here I am at home, alone, with 3 sick kids

and a teething baby...

Beyond grateful when the phone rings around 5:30 pm and it's John.

Yeah for me... time to vent my day away!!

Oh wait... what? Can't talk? WHY?

Oh, gee... how nice... I'm here at home in charge of EVERYTHING all by MYSELF and you can't talk cause you're going HUNTING!?!

OK... whatever!! Call me later!!

About 7:45 the phone rings and it's John in great excitement...

"HEIDI!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME!?! I GOT AN ELK!!

6 x 6!! I'll call you back!"

(I'll call you back.. John's favorite thing to say!)

Oh... sweet! Great! That's exciting!!

So finally... THIS MORNING I get the juicy details!

Went to the water hole... nothing. Went up a little further, and there HE is...standing there staring at us about 400 yards away. John gets down, gets out the tripod... sets up, and the ELK casually turns BROADSIDE to walk off...

BOOM!! BAM!!! KAPLOW!!

(Nice side effects huh)

They wait a few minutes, and walk (oh RUN actually) down the hill and find him dying under a tree. You know the rest of the story from there!

It's a 6 by 6

but wanted to put the news out there for John.
He went hunting last night after work... had a reserve tag for Elk up in Show Low.
2 hours later, I get a call...
HEIDI!!!! I GOT AN ELK!!! It's a 6 by 6!!!!
He was so dang excited! I am so happy for him. He's been working super hard lately to keep us afloat during this nasty (bad to be in construction) time of year! He deserved the hunt, and even more so, deserved to get something in his first few hours!
GREAT JOB BABE!!!
Next time tho... take me with you... OR ELSE!!!!

This was at Shelbi's bridal shower... the lady behind the camera told us not to say CHEESE but something else!! We were laughing from SHOCK!!!

Jogging my rear off... LITERALLY!

Andra and I have been running again. Started out at 4 miles, a few days later... jumped to 6! A week later jumped to 8!! TWO days later... jumped to 10!!! Holy cow... even in cross country I never ran that far! Well, we stayed at 10 miles for a full week. Then I had to take a week off cause John was working out of town... Came back... and we jumped to 14!! Never felt better!! COME ON BABY... MELT THAT FAT RIGHT OFF OF ME!!
Here's where my adventures begin!!
One day, we are jogging along, having a nice conversation... and we hear rustling in the bushes... look over to see a JAVELINA standing there staring at us!! There's NO WHERE for us to go... (We run along the side of the highway) FINALLY... (this is all a matter of ten seconds but it definately felt like ten minutes) it runs off!! HOLY COW!!! That was amazing!!

Next...... a cat! We hear this "meow"... "meow"... "meow"... a few minutes later... still.... "meow"... "meow"... "Where is this dang cat?" So we start talking... maybe it just got ran over and it's yelling for help... or maybe it lives near by and was out looking for food... or maybe it's some kind of physcho cat that is chasing us.... Well, I forgot to mention... it's 4:30 in the morning... and DARK... (we left early cause we wanted to have time to get some distance in).... so a car is coming with it's headlights on... I turn around to see if I can see this CAT... sure enough... there it is.... CHASING US!!!! RUN... FASTER!! We were running so fast trying to get away from this "PHSYCHO CAT"... Faster than we could handle for any long amount of time!!! This dang cat chased us for nearly a mile!!! But don't worry... on our way back home... it followed us AGAIN!!! So much for joking around about a "PHSYCHO CAT"
These are just a few of the great adventures we have had!!

I am definately starting a JOGGING JOURNAL!!
